RECIPE: COCONUT WATER KEFIR

Recipe: Coconut Water Kefir

Rated 3.2 stars by 80 users

If you're looking for a way to make water kefir using less sugar, give coconut water kefir a try! The natural goodness of coconut water is further enhanced with the addition of probiotics from the water kefir culture. Before getting started make sure your grains are fully hydrated and have been culturing in sugar water for at least 3 weeks. You'll also need to refresh your grains by culturing them in sugar water (¼ cup sugar and 1 quart water for 24-48 hours), in between batches of coconut water kefir. The sugar water will feed and refresh the kefir grains to keep them happy and healthy.

Water Kefir Grains are live probiotics in the form of soft, jelly-like ‘grains’ from a cactus plant. When healthy and fed, these grains will continue to grow and multiply and produce an endless supply of water kefir.

Use Water Kefir Grains to make naturally gut-healthy, bubbly water kefir at home! It’s as easy as mixing sugar into water - our Water Kefir Grains will do the rest.

Don’t worry, the sugar isn’t for you. The grains will metabolize the sugar during the fermentation process and the final kefir water will be very low in sugar.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 quart coconut water
  • 3 Tbsp. Water Kefir Grains
  • Optional flavoring: 1 cup fresh fruit (mixtures of berries, lemon, etc. work best)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Activate dehdyrated grains first using sugar water. Once the grains are making good water kefir using sugar water (usually after 3 weeks of successful batches), they are ready to use with coconut water.
  2. Place the water kefir grains in the coconut water. Cover the jar loosely with a tight-weave towel or coffee filter, secured with a rubber band.
  3. Culture the coconut water 24-48 hours. Once the culturing process is complete, remove the kefir grains.
  4. To add fruit flavoring, puree together the coconut water kefir and the fruit.
