I thought I really messed it up. I put them into a quart of raw milk instead of ½ C. Then we tasted the first batch forgetting to discard the 1st (don't do that). But the 2nd and there after is amazing. Weren't used to it yet so we added organic onion powder, garlic salt, cilantro, and paprika to find the best salad dressing we have had to date! I am growing to love the fizzy taste plain but all little more time on that. But we don't want to share the dressing right now anyway (and a tangy spice) i have plans for the whey to make fermented lemonade, ketchup, and mustard. Yum. Thank you guys so much as I didn't know anyone here in ok that had kefir grains.
Hi Jerri, I am happy to hear of your grains success!!
The rating reflects a few issues: I purchased the starter kefir kit. I didn’t see anywhere on the purchase pages that the milk had to be pasteurized milk (not ultra or raw); the kit included a steel strainer, all the instructions said to not use steel. The shipping costs both ways (purchase and return) added to the cost of disappointment, So I tried it anyway and just was a flop.
The kefir grains had multiplied many times over with whole milk. I have started to use goat milk to see if does the same. I already drank my first batch. Overall your is excellent.
This was my first time making milk Kefir, it’s so easy, followed the directions, watched the videos a few times. It’s a great product, I’m making 4 cups of it at a time now, the grains really multiply. It stores well in the fridge, I blend mine up with frozen fruit and I feel a lot better by drinking it every day (no more digestive issues).
