Received Kombucha starter culture (dehydrated scoby) for Christmas. I started the culture exactly by the directions. I started it Dec 26th. I purchased a seed starter heat mat to keep it warm to 85 degrees. Jan 25th I made my first batch. Nothing happened so I made a 2nd batch Feb 19th w/o vinegar at room temp (abt 65-68 degrees. still nothing happening. March 4th I checked on it and I have green mold floating on top. I have made Kombucha in the past from a Scoby someone gave to me and never did I grow mold. I would not recommend using a dehydrated scoby. I will only source live scoby's from now on.
Hi Charlene, I am sorry your Kombucha is not turning out as expected! If you could send an email in to email@example.com with your issue, they would be happy to troubleshoot your Kombucha! I will let them know to expect an email!
It's my fourth month with the kombucha dehydrated SCOBY. However, even by keeping it on the right temperature, pH, darkens and without motion, the smell, flavour and colour of the tea never changed, and a baby SCOBY never grew up.
Both the kombucha and sourdough starter I bought didnt do anything. The scooby just sat there, never multiplied. The sourdough starter never increased in volume despite feeding it as instructed for weeks.
I am still waiting for my starter to arrive…..
Hi Sharon! Thank you for your feedback, after checking on the tracking link it appears your package is set to deliver on 3/14! Be on the lookout for that in the mail!
After a month sitting g in the sweet tea and vinegar mixture the scoby looked the same.
