How to Make Delicious Vegan Froyo Without an Ice Cream Maker!

A minimalist at heart, I prefer not to have appliances and gadgets taking over my kitchen. Therefore, I began the hunt to make frozen yogurt without an ice cream maker. This trick presented an extra challenge as I wanted to make my frozen yogurt vegan.

Cultures for Health has a tried and true Vegan Yogurt Recipe here. Feel free to try other plant-based yogurt such as oat milk yogurt, soy yogurt, or almond yogurt but I found that coconut milk works best and has the creamiest texture!

 Vegan yogurt

INGREDIENTS IN MAKING VEGAN FROYO:

  • 1 Quart-Sized Batch Vegan Yogurt
  • 2 Tbs. Agave Nectar (or other sweetener)
  • 1/4 cup Fruit of Your Choice
  • Toppings of your choice
     

INSTRUCTIONS FOR VEGAN FROZEN YOGURT RECIPE:

  1. Pour your chilled, homemade yogurt recipe into a freezer ziplock bag. Add your sweetener and/or fruit (optional) and stir.
  2. Take care to push out as much air as possible
  3. Seal firmly
  4. Lay the bag flat and place it in the freezer for 2-3 hours
  5. Remove from freezer, then bend and flex the bag to break up the block
  6. Place yogurt chunks in a food processor
  7. Pulse gently until combined, about 30-45 seconds
  8. Scoop and enjoy topped with you favorite toppings

The yogurt should be fairly thick before you put it in the freezer. If not, know how to make yogurt thicker before you freeze. Additionally, be sure that you don’t pulse in the food processor too long, about 30-45 seconds will do. Viola!

If you use fruit, some good choices are (peeled) peaches, banana, kiwi, and berries. If you add oranges, make sure to peel off the white pith.
