Our kefir starter culture makes both milk and water kefir. It's a kefir powder culture, which means each packet can be recultured a few times. Kefir starter is a great choice for beginners, kefir experimenters, and those who don't want to maintain kefir grains.

      Kefir water using juice

I tried making kefir water according to the directions and it didn't ferment at all. I used 100% cranberry juice (I looked all over on Cultures for Health website as to the type of juice to use but didn't find any information of what type of juice to use) because that is what was recommended (along with fresh lemon juice - which I didn't add this time because the directions didn't call for it - I will try another packet with lemon juice to see if I have better luck) when I make kefir soda with a different brand of kefir starter. I'm not sure why it didn't work. Since I've already paid for the starter packet, I will try again. Hopefully it will work this time.

Did not work and refused a refund.

I tried this culture twice following the instructions exactly, down to every last detail including the type of milk. After it failed the first time, I thought maybe the milk was bad so I got another milk and it also failed despite following every last instruction. I bought a similar kefir culture from Body Ecology and it worked beautifully on the same milk. Cultures for health refused to give me a refund because I opened it. How in the world could I possibly know the product was bad before I opened and tried it? I waisted my time, money and even milk on something that didn't work and they won't even refund it. This is very unfair and I will never buy anything from this company every again.

      Not impressed

Kefir starter culture is an expensive way to create your own kefir. The first batch worked fine. The second (using the first as a starter) was less fine - more sour, more liquid. I think this is an expensive way to make kefir.

      Wasted my money

Very disappointing product. Out of 4 packs only 1 made Kefir. Worse, I think of all the wasted milk. I'm an experienced cook, making everything from yogurt, to canned food to butter. Followed the recipe exactly. Really eager to have homemade Kefir but this product didn't deliver.
