Our Heirloom Yogurt Starter Variety Pack is perfect for beginners! It doesn't require the use of a yogurt maker and can culture right on your countertop - just add milk.

For this variety pack, we’ve carefully collected four of our favorite Scandinavian yogurt strains - simple, rich, drinkable Piima; mild, creamy Viili; honey-scented Matsoni, and tangy Filmjölk.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 9 ounces strawberries, fresh or frozen
  • 6 Tbsp. milk
  • 2/3 cup + 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 cups yogurt

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. If using frozen strawberries, thaw the berries. Mash with a mortar and pestle or puree with a blender.
  2. Use a hand mixer to dissolve the sugar in the milk. Add the strawberries and mix. Mix vanilla and yogurt starter into milk mixture.
  3. Pour into an ice cream maker and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
  4. No ice cream maker? Choose an option from our article on How to Make Cultured Ice Cream Without A Machine.
